Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. Mitchell joined CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Within two years she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. The year 1981 saw her begin working for the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign correspondent in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She participated as a member of the panel during 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her contribution in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news reports, including arm control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
